Women in Construction – Sarah Hancock

“We always operate as a team to work leaner and smarter. Every day brings a new challenge and opportunity to improve, which keeps it exciting.”

“I grew up working with my dad who owned his own contracting company and did side jobs with him. I never thought in a million years I’d end up in construction, but my husband was in the industry and I was looking for something that matched his schedule.” Sarah may not have thought she’d have a career in construction, but now as a Project Manager for Corbins having been with the company for nearly 9 years, she says, “Every day brings a new challenge and opportunity to improve, which keeps it exciting.” Sarah started out as an Apprentice in the field, but Corbins ended up needing someone in the office and gave her the opportunity to transfer. Due to her unique skillsets, she spent time in many other departments as well when company needs arose. These included, the Site Incident Prevention planning department, Quality Control, Estimating, and Accounting, before assuming her current role as Project Manager. Sarah says she’s incredibly grateful for all of the opportunities she’s been given and different positions she’s had, and even says she often misses working out in the field! “I’m not much of a stationary person, so I’m grateful I still get to go out on job walks and check out our projects.”

Sarah’s greatest encouragement is for young people who are coming into the workforce. She says, “Go for it. There is such a great opportunity. I’m all for people getting a college degree, but I also have a lot of faith in trade school. My advice would be to at least try it. If you have a company like Corbins that’s willing to pay for you to go to trade school, take it.”

Sarah’s work ethic, willingness to adapt & take on new challenges, and her growing knowledge has allowed her to get to where she is today. We are grateful she continues to develop herself and her team to help lead the way in the PRIDE! #corbinsPRIDE #WICweek2021
