When a building goes up, it is not magically thrown together, nobody is winging it, and the leaders on site do not just let the craft “do their thing”. The planning that goes into our projects provides our teams with the best possible chances of being the best prepared we can for the environment we work in, all while building a culture of confident, connected teammates.
One of the ways we make this happen is through power ups, our daily site-wide huddles. These gatherings include stretch-and-flex routines, pre-task plans, toolbox talks, and safety briefings. Leaders from each contractor gather to include each other in the day’s plans so that cohesiveness and safety are bundled into one priority. Additionally, power ups provide a sense of community for those who are on-site, giving a chance for people to socialize with one another and relate to one another, humanizing their experiences.
Each of our Nox Group offices believes in the benefits of these standard practices, having their company huddle each morning to bring everyone together.
In addition to these power ups, site BBQs are held to reward and remind our craftspeople that without them, our projects would not be what they are. At these BBQs, people are interacting with one another, sharing personal anecdotes about their lives and updating their fellow teammates about what is going on at home. Each quarter, you will see these BBQs across each of our sites, with people gathering together to eat and catch up.
As a Nox Group company, we at Corbins find importance in the parts of this job that prioritize the human feeling. This feeling is channeled into a sense of pride in the fact that each individual person contributes to a bigger purpose in building our services, culture, and brand. Feeling human is more than just talking to others, but building meaningful connections with the people we are spending 40+ hours a week with. Eventually, we build these connections to a point where there is established trust and camaraderie between our people on site, leading to a dynamic and healthy working environment.
There’s more to just showing up to work. Through providing a place and time built into our schedules every day, employees are given an opportunity to take a step back and connect. Whether it’s a personal share, and quick conversation about the weekend, or even when the next pick up game at The APEX is, huddles play a pivotal part in building personal relationships with other people in the office and on-site. It’s easier said than done, but with culture-focused leadership, it allows us to prioritize a sense of belonging for each individual, which translates into meeting our business goals.
