At the heart of every skilled trade are stories of perseverance. This year, we proudly celebrate the achievements of our WECA apprenticeship graduates. In our largest graduating class to date, these individuals have dedicated countless hours of on-the-job training, classroom learning, and real-world experience to reach their goals. Each of their stories represents the future of the construction industry, and their journey is a testament to their commitment to mastering their craft. As they transition from apprentices to qualified Journeyman electricians, we reflect on the immense effort and passion they’ve poured into their work.
From Apprentice to Journeyman
Graduate Cody Cole feels his time in the WECA apprenticeship has helped shape his career by providing him with the “why” behind the way we install the way we do, and has given him a deeper understanding of the need for certain systems. Now a Foreman, he says one of the most rewarding experiences he’s had during his apprenticeship was being given the opportunity to apply the knowledge he gained in class to that in the field. “Corbins has always made sure to provide me with the necessary items to succeed, and what better way to prove that than by helping me with my education to further my growth,” he says.
Corbins partners with the Western Electrical Contractors Association (WECA) to offer a top-tier apprenticeship program to those interested in the electrical trade in Arizona. WECA’s program is regarded as one of the best in the Western United States. It is known for its high graduation rates and strong reviews from both apprentices and contractors. This program offers a curriculum based on the National Electric Code, with both classroom instruction and on-the-job training, making it a perfect fit for those looking to join the electrical trade.
Since partnering with WECA in 2021, Corbins has been covering the tuition and paid training hours for apprentices. Instead of attending after-hours classes for four years, apprentices attend two-week blocks every six months, making the program more convenient and manageable. Our teammates have expressed appreciation for this structure and the opportunity to learn while earning an income and working directly with experienced Journeymen on the job site.
WECA Program Highlights:
- Two consecutive weeks of classes every six months
- Working directly with licensed Journeymen
- School tuition paid for by Corbins
- Experienced teaching staff
- Opportunity to gain valuable skills and invest in your future
By partnering with WECA, Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC), and Grand Canyon University, Corbins is investing in the growth of our workforce and the future of the electrical trade.
